I guess the brainchild of Spardello's came a long time ago. Starting with my grandmother and a tradition assumed by my parents. As young boys my grandmother routinely brought us to better specialty and department stores. My parents shared in this routine.

Naturally with the type of treatment we received we grew to love specialty stores. The one feature I truly appreciated was after taking my new suit home, I looked inside and my initials were in it. How important and special I felt.

As I grew older and worked different jobs I bought myself better clothing from better stores. Only to wake up one day and realize the disappearances of these stores.  That is when I decided to take action.

Almost immediately I found a small store in a plaza which once housed  a store I admired, (Monticello's) a premier men's store.  Monticello''s had closed about  1994. And the plaza that once housed only Montcello's was subdivided and rented out. As fate would have it the middle unit was vacant.  And one look through the glass decided it all.

The interior was all mirrored and there was a staircase in the middle of the floor.  I envisioned a private tailor shop downstairs.  This is exactly what happened. A bottle of Windex and some fixtures and furniture and I was in business.

I sort out the advice of my uncle Ray Spardello in the business for several decades and also of a key salesmen of Monticello's, Joe Barbato and I was off.

Being a quick study I paid close attention to these veterans and it paid off.

After 3 years I bought a building a quarter mile from the Monticello plaza. We have been at this current location for 4 years. Thank God.

Retail business is a struggle everyday but I love it. Service is the key. We try to do whatever a customer asks at Spardello's. No request too small, or too big.

Spardello's unlike other clothing stores has tailors on duty 7 day's a week, and  Spardello's does not charge for alterations on items bought from us. Including shirts.

I did open 2 other stores in 2002. One in Newport, R.I. and the other at 139 Main ST. in East Greenwich, R.I. Both stores have tailors on duty whenever the stores are open.

I truly hope you enjoy our store as I have enjoyed the pleasure of specialty stores because of my parents and grandparents. Hope to see you soon!
